Summary

In this episode of the Anxiety Coaches Podcast, I delve into the powerful concept of living within your circle of influence as a means to reduce anxiety. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the chaos of life and the pressures that come with work and family obligations. To navigate these feelings and regain a sense of control, I turn to the serenity prayer as a reminder of what we can and cannot change in our lives. This prayer helps frame the discussion around recognizing our personal boundaries and areas where we can make a difference.

I share insights about how the relentless pace of modern life heightens our stress levels, often leaving us feeling like we are on a runaway train. The urgency to fulfill multiple responsibilities can trigger our survival instincts, propelling us into an anxious state where we constantly anticipate the "other shoe dropping." Acknowledging these triggers is the first step in mitigating the panic and anxiety that can arise when we are overloaded. I emphasize the importance of slowing down, particularly through mindful breathing practices, to ground ourselves amidst the external pressures we face.

Throughout the discussion, I introduce practical exercises to help listeners identify what lies within their control. I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect and journal about their daily stressors and categorize them into what can be influenced versus what must be accepted. This clarity allows us to focus our energy on the aspects of our lives that we can change, ultimately paving the way for improved mental well-being.

your circle of influence. I really think that we forget sometimes what is within our

own control, what it is that we can control. And one of my favorite ways of reminding myself of that

1:09.2

is by using the serenity prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I

cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Pressures of work and family obligations. There's a lot of people and what so we can be pushed and pulled by a number of

different family obligations. And then we have the the speed of life these days. I have to say,

2:29.9

I think that life is moving a lot faster in different places than it has in the past. And I think it's very real. I think we have to pay attention to it so that we can pay attention to how we're involved in that and where can we slow down or where can we live the life that we want or are we
