Yo, today's QOD is focusing is about saying no.

Welcome back to the QOD of the day show. I'm your host, Sean Croxson, we got Steve Jobs back on the show and today he is talking about focus.

Focus is about saying no.

We say yes to way too many things that have nothing to do with the direction we want to go in.

They have nothing to do with our goals.

We're reading a personality isn't permanent in the book club right now. There's a story about a rowing team and this rowing team, the members of the team filter all of their decisions through one question.

Will it make the boat go faster?

That's it. I love this story. I have post it now on my computers. So when I'm working I have to make decisions. I looked to my left and it says will they get you to my income goal.

If the answer is yes, I do it. If the answer is no, I don't do it.

An opportunity is come all the time. We're back in the day I would have said yes, but now I'm like, no. Why?

Because it doesn't get me to where I want to go. It doesn't make my boat go faster. So think about what is your goal and what are you saying yes to that does not match your goal.

And it's time to start saying no more often because when you say no, you can focus on the things that really matter here Steve.

What about open dog? What about open dog?

Yeah.

What about it? It's dead, right? It's dead, right?

I know some of you spend a lot of time working on stuff that we put a bullet in the head of.

I apologize. I feel your pain. But Apple suffered for several years from no from from Lowsie engineering management. I have to say it.

And there were people that were going off in 18 different directions doing arguably interesting things in each one of them. Good engineers, Lowsie management. And what happened was you look at the farm that's been created with all these different animals going in different directions.

And it doesn't add up the total is less than the sum of the parts. And so we had to decide what are the fundamental directions we're going in and what makes sense and what doesn't.

And there were a bunch of things that didn't. And microcosmically they might have made sense macrocosmically they made no sense.

And you know the hardest thing is when you think about focusing right you think well focusing is saying yes no focusing is about saying no.
