Quote: Highly sensitive people learned early in life to try to control the external world as a way to attempt to manage their inner one. -Sheryl Paul Chapters 0:26 Introduction to Sensitivity 2:22 Quotes on Sensitivity 6:12 The Nature of Highly Sensitive People 8:53 Identifying as Highly Sensitive 10:15 Emotional Exhaustion and Sensitivity 11:53 Traits of Highly Sensitive People 16:13 Navigating Change and Sensitivity 16:58 Closing Thoughts and Next Steps Summary In this episode, I delve into the experience of being a highly sensitive person (HSP) and how it can often be mistaken for anxiety. I discuss the unique traits of HSPs, who make up about 20% of the population and possess an ability to process stimulation deeply and feel emotions intensely. While being highly sensitive can provide exquisite advantages such as heightened empathy and an acute awareness of details that others might overlook, it also comes with challenges that can lead to feeling overwhelmed in everyday life. I explore the breadth of feelings and responses that accompany high sensitivity, emphasizing the dual nature of these traits. For instance, while heightened empathy can be considered a gift, it also means that HSPs might find themselves emotionally exhausted from absorbing the feelings of those around them. I share insights from notable experts on the topic, including Elaine Aron and Jen Graneman, to reinforce that sensitivity is not a weakness but a distinctive trait that warrants respect and understanding. Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to reflect on how their sensitivities manifest and how they might identify as an HSP. #HighlySensitivePerson #HSP #Anxiety #EmotionalSensitivity #Overstimulation #Empathy #SelfCareForHSPs #ElaineAron #JenGraneman #InnerPeace #HighlySensitive #HSPCommunity #Empath #Introvert #Extrovert #EmotionalWellbeing #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfLove #Mindfulness #StressRelief #CopingStrategies #PersonalGrowthJourney #InnerStrength #Vulnerability #Authenticity #GentleParenting #SensitiveSoul #TheAnxietyCoachesPodcast #GinaRyan #ListenNow Learn more about your ad choices. 0:49.0

are you actually a highly sensitive kind of person? And highly sensitive people are in the 20% of the population.

1:00.1

So 20% of the population of highly sensitive people are people who process stimulation deeply

1:07.8

and feel emotions intensely. Their sensitivity gives them incredible advantages,

1:15.7

such as noticing details that other people miss, reading people well, and having high

1:22.2

levels of compassion and empathy. But it also means that they can become easily overwhelmed by day-to-day life.

1:32.4

High sensitivity shows up differently in each highly sensitive person. So I want you to think about

1:40.4

this as we're going through this episode today about both sides of the coin of

1:46.9

everything that we carry with us. You know, some people have other traits that are awesome and

1:52.9

great, and those may have downfalls too. They may have the other side of the coin too. So if you're

1:59.6

somebody who has some of these great advantages,

2:02.7

such as somebody who is detail oriented and can notice details that other people miss or that can

2:09.7

read people well, or that has high levels of compassion and empathy, not everybody has this. So if you have this, you are considered to be

2:21.0

a highly sensitive person. And that's not a bad thing. So I have a couple of quotes here that

2:29.4

I've pulled out that are really good to keep in the back of your mind. And they kind of explain highly sensitive

people in a very interesting way. The first one is from Elaine Aaron. Now, you may enjoy reading
