| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Mary's Cup of Tea podcast. I'm your host, Mary Jilkovsky. I'm an author, |
| 0:07.7 | speaker, and all-around self-love advocate. And this is the podcast that will inspire you to love |
| 0:14.6 | yourself. Hello, my self-lovers. Welcome to another episode. Today, we're diving into a big topic that can often feel so heavy because it's just infused with a lot of shame and it's probably something we're not as open to talking about. And that is body shame in the bedroom. What that feels like, how |
| 0:41.4 | discouraging it can feel, and hopefully by the end of this episode, you'll walk away with some |
| 0:48.4 | tools to help you conquer the body shame in the bedroom when it comes to dating, intimacy, having sex, relationships, |
| 0:57.9 | all of that. So just a couple of notes before we dive in. Firstly, this is an 18 plus episode. |
| 1:04.6 | I have the explicit warning on all my episodes actually because you never know what's going to |
| 1:09.8 | come out of my mouth. So I think everything should be considered 18 plus on Mary's cup of tea. |
| 1:14.9 | But this one especially. |
| 1:17.3 | Also, I would like to acknowledge my thin privilege and that this episode is coming from |
| 1:24.4 | my own personal experience. |
| 1:25.8 | And my own experience is being in a body that's even at |
| 1:31.5 | my highest weight was and is considered quote unquote socially acceptable. So I meet a lot of |
| 1:40.3 | beauty standards and there are aspects of body image and oppression that I do not |
| 1:47.3 | understand. And as much as I wish that I could speak more on that, and of course I can do research |
| 1:55.6 | and educate myself as much as possible, I don't think it would be right for me to try to talk about it as if I'm an |
| 2:03.4 | expert. So I do have a book recommendation if that's you, if you're living in a marginalized |
| 2:09.0 | body, whether that's a bigger body or you're a person of color, or you just feel like you |
| 2:14.9 | don't really, really, really don't fit into the beauty standard. |
| 2:18.2 | And it's perhaps not all in your head, but rather a big part of it is external societal forces |
| 2:26.6 | that are quite literally making you feel like shit. |
| 2:31.0 | And that is a very real experience. |
