This is John Batchel, a conversation with Judy Dempsey of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace about the rising and rising and rising of AFD, the anti-NATO, anti-EU, anti-American pro-Russia party

that has gained strength in the eastern part of Germany.

You remember it was divided between the Soviet and the German world.

And now it's gaining strength in the western part of the country as well.

Judy reports that it is nearly pulled even with the ruling party, the CSU and the CDU,

and merits is threatened every day,

and much of merits' negotiations and maneuvers are to hold back the surge of the populist

anti-ante-anti- party, the AFD.
