Summary

Is Your Portfolio Too AI-Heavy? and Does Social Security COLA Keep Up With Inflation? In this episode, Wes Moss shares startling JP Morgan research: just 41 AI-related stocks now account for nearly 50% of the S&P 500's weight, making the market severely overweight in a single theme. Wes offers actionable advice on how to rebalance your portfolio. Also, with the new COLA increase, Wes sets the record straight on Social Security, demonstrating that it has quietly been one of America's best inflation fighters since 1975. He examines the history of COLA adjustments and provides an honest assessment of the fear surrounding the Social Security trust fund running out, clarifying what that worst-case scenario truly means for current and future retirees. Mentioned on the show: Rule 72(t): Secret Rule To Access Your IRA Early Rule of 72 Calculator - Clark Howard Plus, Christa shares your #AskWes questions and Wes gives his take. Welcome to Ask an Advisor. I'm Krista DiBias here with Mr. West Moss.

Wes Moss, Krista DiBias. With a blazer on today.

It's cold. We're in the cold season, so it's like a real, the chilly season, and it is a, kind of thick. It's almost like a coat.

0:20.0

Very nice. I might have to take it off if I start sweating. So last week, you and Clark did an episode together and that was very well received. I thought that was so much fun. And you mentioned the AI. You guys talked about AI stocks. Yeah, we talked about private equity in 401Ks. We also talked about AI at least a little bit. And the risk that we see, Clark brings up a really good point.

0:41.1

It's not. 4-1Ks, but we also talked about AI at least a little bit. And the risk that we see,

0:39.7

Clark brings up a really good point. It's not just the market itself that is getting AI heavy.

0:44.7

And that's what I want to talk about today. Right. The overweight. The market is a weight problem

0:48.6

weighted towards AI. And the question is, how do you or should you or if you wanted to slim that down? And we

0:56.4

touched on this last week, but there's new research I found over the past couple of days from

1:02.0

J.P. Morgan that shows just how there's a handful, there's 41 of them, 41 AI related stocks that

1:09.9

they are porting to out of the S&P 500.

1:13.4

So you've got 459 stocks that are not AI-related, and you've got 41 that are that makes up the

1:19.0

S&P 500 as far as the number of companies.

1:22.4

But those 41 stocks really make up almost 50% of the market's weight.

1:29.4

So we're going to get to that first, but also later on, there was a COLA raise for Social Security recipients.

1:35.4

Yes. And I want to talk about how there's the worry about Social Security. Does it really keep up with inflation?

1:41.7

Is it going to go away? There's always a fear around Social Security. And I want to

1:47.0

go through some history in relation to the new raise recipients just got. Awesome. All right. So

1:54.0

AI stocks, how worried do we have to be too? Well, I think it's just something that we can't overlook. And it's so new that three years ago,

2:03.8

there really weren't any AI stocks because AI hadn't really officially launched. It was really

2:09.2

November of 2022. And in this short, just shy of call it 36 months, it's been the theme that has really driven the markets.

2:18.6

And I think it's important to understand just how much it really is driving.
