I think certainly in the last year certain things that I was writing about, certain trends

were temporarily suspended.

And then the question is what happens now?

And my really provisional answer is that in technology and sort of technological areas,

the pandemic probably pushes us out of decadence in some ways, that the sort of the race for

the COVID vaccine both proved that we could sort of do an amazing science in a hurry, but

also sort of create an attempt that I think could have follow-on effects for a lot of technological

changes that have sort of been hovering as possibilities for a while, but could actually

get pushed into reality in the next 10 years.

This week we are very excited to bring you Ross to doubt that to the podcast.

He makes his third and triumphant return in order to talk about his book, The Decadent

Society.

This is actually the updated paperback version of The Decadent Society.

It's called America Before and After the Pandemic.

Ross was literally our very last in-person guest, one of the very last people I got to

see in person whenever I was being interviewed.

And it's fascinating to me with Ross because his book was both perfectly timed for the

pandemic, but also left a lot out.

So to see him grapple with how exactly the last year has gone for his entire thesis about

how our economy and our culture has become, The Decadent was just really, really valuable

to get his insight at this time.
