We last spoke about gold on the Moneymay's podcast in an interview three years ago with Evie Hambro,

who runs the Black Rock Natural Resources team.

And we discussed then that paper currencies have a 100% track record of losing purchasing power,

whereas gold has a 100% record of permanence. And no student of financial history will be

surprised that central banks since then have continued to print even more of their own currencies

following the well-worn path of debasement. And for those James Bond fans in On Her

Majesty Secret Service released in 1969, Count Draco offers James Bond one million pounds in gold to marry his

daughter. So I had a look at the data, and to have the equivalent purchasing power today of

10 pounds in 1969, you'd need to have 163 pounds. And if you had bought gold in Sterling at that time,

it would be up 2,000%. So currency debasement is everywhere and continuous, and who better to shine the torch
