as ever by club historian Rick Lownville. Hi Rick.

All right mate. How are you?

I'm very good and I'm unusual excited about this episode because it features one of my

all-time great Chelsea heroes, the wonderful We Pat Pat Nervin, one of the great icons of

that side in the mid-1980s.

Absolutely fair. So many Chelsea fans and probably the most articulate footballer personally

I've ever met on top of that. So today, especially after the season, we Chelsea supporters

have just endured. We thought it'd be insightful to ask Pat about the behind closed door

psychology. So what is the dressing room like during a particularly good season as we've had

quite recently and as he enjoyed from his debut in 1983, 1984 with promotion or a spectacularly

bad one like we've just had and he also endured just four years later in 1987, 88.

Yes and as the first campaign finished with the joy promotion and the last one concluded with

the disaster of relegation, we can think of no one better place to represent the player's perspective.

That's right and but before Pat was in wisdom and they are wise,

though I thought I'd better admittedly quite with heavy heart put last season into historical

perspective to show you just how bad it was but also with some spooky parallels to this season

from around a hundred years ago quite and you're really sure about this. I mean some people might

just be about to sit down for a nice meal. We must, we must. I mean look, Gary, without acknowledging

the lows you cannot appreciate the highs quite so much. I mean just think about our

travails in the Champions League for example and to begin with the season just past 2022-23
