So I mean you've had a long career often with an engagement to the United States

which is at a level that's a little bit rare for German

winemakers.

How did you first come to move to the United States or to find the United States?

Long story going back to my mother's youth.

She was an exchange student in Ash Tabula County, Ohio, near Lake Area in 1953. And she spent a year on a farm that was going grapes,

Concord and Kataba to make juice and jolly.

She had a wonderful year she fell in love with the United States and transplanted that seed into her marriage and her kids.

So in 1973, she went for her 20th class reunion and she took my father, my next brother myself along.

We were 14 and 12 years at that time and it was like great starting in New York City and

then going to Washington, D.C. Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Ohio, Niagara Falls and then the farm in Ohio.

We just had a great, great time and made friends with the next generation of the family and that basically

laid the foundation to a long-lasting friendship relationship until now.

Next step was in 83, 1983, with a couple of friends we were in

university and we had a long summer break, so we decided we'd take an

adventure trip to the United States. Went over with a small budget and backpacks. a In those days it was the first low cost carrier to Pittsburgh where we bought an old beat up Fort Granada
