Speaking to Rebecca Grant of the Lexington Institute about the Gerald R. Ford supercarrier

arriving in the Caribbean Atlantic off Venezuela. Where was it coming from? Where is it needed? What is

the significance of moving a supercarrier, the number one carrier in the fleet right now, all the way across the Atlantic

when it was on station. Rebecca answers in detail and also mentions we could use more of these.

Here's Rebecca Grant on the Ford. So the Ford made a rapid transit, but she had completed

exercises with NATO up in the Baltics, chasing around the

Russian Shadow Fleet and done some other exercise work. But it took her just about a week to go

and chop into Southern Command. We do have other assets. We keep destroyers in the Mediterranean

and there remains an aircraft carrier near the Arabian Gulf as well.

And, of course, out in the Pacific.

But no question, you know, our aircraft carriers are always needed at the hotspots,

and that's why we need to keep them and we need to build some new ones.
