Hello and welcome back to Cult Leader. I'm your Cult Leader Spencer Henry and this week is all about love.

0:42.0

L, it's for the way you look at me, don't look at me. Oh, it's for the only one I see and to be honest, I don't think I like that.

V is for the very extra ordinary doesn't make sense, but neither does anything we're going to talk about today. Quick plugs follow along online at Cult Leader Podcast. I'm at Spencer Henry. The last obituary, the third episode, I think went up last week and I was laughing out loud the entire time and I normally don't laugh at anything that I do, but not as in the last one. Not going to tell you what they are about because that's just for you to find out. Let's see.

1:29.0

I posted an ad on my Instagram for the new CBS show, Clorey. Some sure you guys saw it and obviously it's an ad, so I watched the first episode before I recorded anything for it and honestly I really enjoyed it. I think you guys would like it.

1:43.0

Like you guys know, this is not an ad by the way right now, but you know I tell you for real on here and I thought it was really good and I'm pretty picky with scripted TV shows.

1:52.0

I'm thinking of new things, the Cecil Hotel Netflix show, are you guys like living for it right now? I'll be honest, I had it on in the background while I was doing other things and I thought it was pretty good.

2:03.0

There were parts where I was like, okay, I both love and hate when things like that come out because obviously true crime, yes long time fan, but then the online conspiracy start, I get so over it and then there's like 500 TikTokers taking one part of the story and dragging it out.

2:19.0

The Del comes out with a new song, you know, and you're like scream crying it for a week and then it's on at your dentist a month later and you're like, why am I listening to someone like you right now?

2:29.0

And why is my dentist lightweight hot and why can I just not hear this right now? You know, everyone is relating.

2:37.0

Let's get to our episode. So it's a Valentine's Day special. If you've been a longtime cult pave or recent binger earlier on, I did a few episodes that were like a celebrity series or the strange motives episodes where instead of talking about one case, I would talk about multiple cases in an episode.

2:53.0

So today's gonna be kind of like that, but with the weird love stories and all of them are very Carl Tansler asked which I think was like the third episode of Cult Leader Ever when I covered him. So it's been a minute, but that episode is on Patreon on the $3 little leader tier.

3:08.0

So if you're itching to hear that, that's where to find it. This first story is about a guy named Lit Von, which by the way, shout out to Cult Babe at Dub City Scy for helping me with the pronunciation for this story.

3:21.0

His name began circulating the Vietnamese news circuits in 2009 and honestly the story sounds so wild and made up that it took me a minute to actually confirm that this was in fact a true story.

3:33.0

A lot of my information about this first story came from articles that were originally written in Vietnamese and then auto translated to English for the American news cycle.

3:41.0

And normally you can kind of just guess where the original intent of a sentence is going, but like some of these are so blunt that I'm like, are the people speaking just very blunt or was that just part of the translation.

3:53.0

So here's the gist. Le von and his wife, Femti Song, were destined for marriage from a young age. No, they weren't high school sweethearts. It was their parents decision. The traditional arranged marriage situation.

4:07.0

They had actually grown up with each other and their parents promised one another that they would quote, match their children when they grew up. As a young man, Le had entered the military. Upon his return from his service, the couple married. The year was 1975.

4:21.0

Now even though they grew up together, at this point they didn't really know each other as grownups and it felt almost like marrying a stranger. But the more they got to know each other, the more they started to fall for one another and things were on the up and up.

4:33.0

Which I'm sure is not always the case, so they were lucky in that sense. Together the couple would go on to have seven children. And as a result, had to live pretty frugally. I mean, you know, seven kids, that should do it. Initially financially he was doing pretty well. He was working as a carpenter, but lays addiction to gambling ended up costing them a pretty penny.

4:53.0

So a lot of the articles mention Le getting involved with what's called the illegal lotto. I hadn't heard of it before, so I did some research and I guess it's like a bedding system in the country where you gamble on a numbers game and you can win up to 70 times your bet. He got super addicted to it and they eventually ended up having to sell their family home as a result of his gambling problem.
