For years, the biggest misconception about this case has been that,

0:59.8

after Brian Carrick walked into Val's foods on the night of December 20th, 2002, no one saw anything that could explain what happened to him.

1:08.8

The reality is, Brian was never alone in the store that night. When you piece together the information that was provided by the people who were working at Val's on December 20th, it tells the story.

1:20.8

We know who Brian's last two phone calls were with and what was discussed. We know why Brian came back to the store that night and who he was there to see.

1:29.8

We even know the exact path he took through Val's every step of the way, from the moment he walked through the front entrance to the moment he was attacked by the doorway of the produce cooler.

1:40.8

The reason we at Framed had everything we needed to solve this mystery was because the John'sburg police had a lot of help from other agencies.

1:48.8

The Illinois State Police work yielded a tall stack of lab reports detailing where every drop of blood was found in Val's and who it belonged to.

1:57.8

The McKenry County Task Force interviewed practically every student at John'sburg High School, which helped us understand what was going on in Brian's life.

2:06.8

The FBI did find work on this case as well. We wouldn't have been able to construct as precise a timeline as we did if it wasn't for their efforts.

2:15.8

In a case with this much attention and resources devoted to it, how did they get it so wrong?

2:21.8

Rob, all along I've just been waiting for you to be the glue that holds a puzzle together because we got all the pieces.

2:29.8

The investigators gathered detailed statements from nearly every Val's employee during the first few days of the investigation with one exception.

2:37.8

The guy whose bloody fingerprint was found at the crime scene was the one employee who the police decided not to take a detailed statement from.

2:45.8

During the first six months of the investigation, we've only come across one page of one report which documents an interview with Rob.

2:53.8

The lead detective Keith Von Alman is the one who prepared that report.

2:58.8

Here's what I think, Rob. I think you and I, I mean, I don't know. Again, I could be wrong, but I think you and I have the most connection of anybody in this case, you know, as police and witness.

3:09.8

I was at your house how many times and it's not because I believe that you're a murderer. I don't.

3:15.8

I didn't come to you so many times because I wanted to get you. I came to you so many times because I wanted to help you. I really did.

3:23.8

You know, and that's why I'm here again today. I still want to help you.

3:27.8

We've said it before, but we feel it's worth repeating.

3:31.8

Keith Von Alman appears to be the biggest reason why a case never came together against Rob.
