Tom Fitzgerald is a cowboy. I mean he grew up on a ranch riding horses

chasing down cattle like ranchers do. That was back in the 50s the ranch was

somewhat remote that had sporadic electricity that came from a generator,

they irrigated crops from a creek, life was simple. And when he's around 15 years old he read a

Reader's Digest story about the mysterious Oak Island in Nova Scotia.

That story really stuck in Tom's mind.

Now, in case you don't know about Oak Island, as I mentioned, it's in Nova Scotia, that's in Canada.

It's been shrouded in mystery since I think the 1700s,

when there was supposedly some treasure buried there.

There's a lot of compelling reasons, many compelling reasons,

for people to believe that this treasure is actually there

and ever since then people have tried to dig it up unsuccessfully.

There's all kinds of environmental problems and other things that make digging impossible.

There's a lot to the story. It's captured a lot of people's

imagination, if not their lust for treasure. Anyway, time passed. A lot of time passed.

Tom, no longer a boy, was approaching his 80th birthday. He still had not seen

Oak Island and he had still not forgotten about that story he read back when he was

15 years old so he hatched a plan. He planned to ride 10,000 miles or

1600 kilometers at 80 years old to finally get to see Oak Island. Now I'm going to bring in someone else here because a few years before this

Tom had met a fellow named Patrick Farrell who is also a motorcyclist. Pat liked to ride his custom motorcycle

around town mainly on very short rides and as far as he knew that's all there was to riding motorcycles.

But as Pat got to know Tom a little better and was exposed to his riding style, his idea of riding changed completely,
