So we need to recognize that when the Israelites call the Ark of the Covenant to help them in the

battle with the Philistines, you know, this is not an act of true piety on their part. They're treating

the Ark of the Covenant like a lucky rabbit's foot. They're treating it like a good luck charm.

This is how the nations around them treat their idols. And, you know, when we get

to verse four, and we read, and the two sons of Eli, Hoffney and Phineas were there with the Ark

of the Covenant.

Beautiful. Last week we talked about the selection of Samuel as God's prophet and the rejection of Hoffney

and Phineas as God's priests.

And with Samuel's selection comes the return, as we saw, of God's word to God's people.

And I think this role of the prophet that we talked about is just super clear when you get to the end of three into the beginning of chapter four, first Samuel.

So let me just read it.

What does a prophet do in case you're wondering?

First Samuel 3, verse 21, and the word of the Lord appeared again at Shiloh for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shilow by the word of the Lord.
