Here's John Bachelor. It is Christmas Eve, 1941. The White House,

the President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and his guest, Winston Churchill,

and Eleanor, and the vast staff around FTR, are addressing an American audience by a radio.

The President's voice is to bring comfort but also to

introduce again and again to the American people that we're at war.

The attack, December 7th, is a shock to a nation that's been watching the war in Europe and the war in Asia for many years.

Now we're plunged into it.
