This is CBSI in the world. I'm John Bachelor. The threat in the Middle East, the threat

in Ukraine, the threat in Eurasia. I welcome Jonathan Schanzer, Senior Vice President

Research Foundation for the Defense of Democracies. Testifying and providing information most

recently for the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, which is called

the Helsinki Commission is his congressional testimony. Jonathan presented last week to

the distinguished members of the Congress and other interested parties, a document that

you can find online. However, we come right to a question to be answered going forward.

An event took place in 2021, the rocket war out of Gaza. At that time, there was an exchange

of rockets and the Israelis quieted down the provocation. There were also threats of murder,

tunnels, the usual. Jonathan's written a book about it, Gaza 2021. However, I read in his

most recent testimony, he's again reminded me that there was a discovery made during that conflict.

The nerve center of authority for the rocket war and for the north and the south, his

balaf and Hamas, located in Beirut, I believe. Jonathan, a very good evening to you. What do we need

to know about that nerve center? What does it tell us about the scale of the threat now in Israel?

Good evening to you. Good evening, John. I think, you know, first, it's probably important to note

that we do see evidence of a broader axis, if you will, and Senator McConnell talked about this

axis just the other day echoing what I think President Biden has talked about echoing my

congressional testimony. The increasingly we see the Russians, the Chinese and the Iranians,

perhaps a lesser extent than North Koreans working together to undermine the US-led world order.

And then I think if you start, that's at a macro level. Then we start to bring it down a bit

to what's happening in the region right now. We can see another axis forming where it is Iran

coordinating the activities of his balaf, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic jihad, and other terrorist
