The Norway Rat, Rat is Norway Vega, Texas.

The Norway Rat is a plague, has been for centuries.

Right now, however, it is a threat to New York City housing authority.

And I have the reporter from the city, an online coverage of the city, Greg Smith, who's

been helping me understand New York City and New York State public housing for some time,

about what is to be done about the rat population.

The scale of this is humbling, but we'll divide it into two pieces before COVID-19 and

after COVID-19.

You mentioned that in 2019, there was an agreement between the New York City housing authority,

177,000 units, and then Mayor Bill de Blasio with the Department of Housing and Urban Development

to reduce the rat population.

How did they do, Greg?

So let's start with that agreement.

So that agreement came about because of a federal prosecutor in Manhattan looking at the conditions

in public housing, in part because of some of the reporting that I had been doing about

those conditions.
