This is CBS, I in the world, I'm John Bachelor. The French election, the European Union election, the British election, all this in front of us, and I am very

thankful that my colleague Judy Dempsey of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Strategic Europe, she's the editor-in-chief

is here, to help me sort out what seemed to be competing statements of alarm. We

begin in Paris because the connection to the EU is we're told President McCrone, who is a genius at public relations, made a mistake. We're told in that responding to the performance of so-called

far-right parties in the EU election, he called a snap election for the Assembly without

consulting with his counselors, at least some of them.

Therefore, his decision is now regarded as hasty.

But it's led to a vote in France that suggests

Marie Le Penh's National Rally, which is identified as a far right party, consistent with similar

parties in other parts of the EU.

The far right party is on the eve of taking control of the Assembly.

So says the National Rally.

Judy's here to help me because these are headlines and lead paragraphs in the Financial Times, but I'm a world away.

Judy, a very good day to you. Marie Le Penh is making bold statements about taking a majority

in the second round on July 7th. What does that mean? How is she going to do that when she didn't get it in the first round? Good evening to you.

Good evening, John, and thank you for having me on your on your your show which really is always very testing for me intellectually to explain to your listeners.

So, listeners, first round you set out the map, you know, which party is only

out the biggest or the weakest middle round. The second round is so important

which will happen on July 7th on Sunday next Sunday because it's

tactical and what we are seeing now is a huge rush between the center and the left to join forces to stop

between the Penn's national rally from taking the majority.
