Hello everybody. Welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression, the podcast.

Today we're going to learn two great phrases here.

You ready?

The first one is fat chance, F-A-T, fat, fat, F-A-T, chance, C-H-A-N-C-A-N-C-E. And the second one is Slim Chance, S-L-I-M. So fat, I think you know what fat means. He's fat.

Kind of the opposite would be slim, right? Slim. Oh, coach Shane used to be slim, but now he's getting fat.

It's true. I need to be careful. I need to lose some weight. But here we're talking about chance, chance.

And chance is like probability possibility right so next year there is a chance i will go to

los vegas to see my father.

There's a chance.

Now, if you hear that and you think, no way, you won't have time, you don't have the time to go, you could say to me, I'll fat chance, which means you don't think so. So I say,

oh, next year there's a chance. I'll go visit my father in Las Vegas. But you say, no way.

Because, oh, fat chance. No way. You don't have time.

And then I could say, well, there's a slim chance.

Maybe it's not completely impossible.

There's a little chance.

So fat chance basically means the desire or hope is impossible.

Forget about it.

Slim chance means the desire or hope is very small.

It's possible, but very, very small.
