Holy Week is a time of contemplation.

We think about, we meditate upon the suffering of Christ as he approaches his cross,

as he goes into suffering willingly, as he is mocked and beaten, as he is laid upon his cross and then laid in his tomb.

But for the Christian, this is great celebration, although it is mixed with a kind of fearful awe that this would be necessary and that the love that Christ shows the world when he does this is truly unfathomable.

Greetings and welcome to issues et cetera on this good Friday, April the 7th. I'm Todd Wilkin.

Thanks for tuning us in. We're going to be studying the Holy Week him, O Darkest Woe with Pastor Will Whedon of the Word of the Lord in Doors Forever.

Then we'll have Pastor Brian Wolf Miller lead us in a teaching on the seven words of Christ from the cross.

Pastor Will Whedon is assistant pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamill, Illinois.

Formerly served as director of worship for the Lutheran Church of Missouri Synod.

This is a lesser known Holy Week him. Where did it come from?

Well, that is such a shame that it is lesser known because it really is one of the greats.

I think our people will agree to that by the time we're done today.

This him is, we have it in our him, though, is actually a composite.

The first Danza is by the Jesuit priest and poet Friedrich Spief von Langenfeld, who was one of the greatest poets of the counter-reformation.
