I'm joined as usual by my colleagues Matt Norlander and Sam Bessini.

It's been an interesting week in the world of college basketball.

Thanks to the NCAA announcing its findings in the SMU investigation and leavening

a punishment of a postseason ban for this season against the Mustangs suspension of Hall of Fame

Coach Larry Brown for nine games in this upcoming season.

For those unfamiliar and I don't know how you could be if you're actually listening to a college basketball

podcast, seems to imply you would have already read the story.

But just in case, here's the detail.

The problem for SMU is that an assistant coach and another person connected to the basketball

program guided a McDonald's All-American and Keith Frazier to an online class then did

the work for him so they pass it and be eligible.

That's a no-no if I've ever heard of one and regardless though, SMU's president thinks

the NCAA was unfair.

So I'll start with you, Norlander.

Was the NCAA unfair in its punishment of SMU for the findings that it actually had?

If I'm going to use a one word answer, I will say yes, but I'm going to do a lot of qualifying

here.

It's only unfair in the sense that the timing of this, which is not really truly of the

NCAA's concern, I will also concede that.

I mean, the timing of it is the timing of it.
