Summary

A change in transfer protocol could be coming college sports ... eventually. Most coaches are against it. Which makes them somewhat hypocritical, according to Parrish and Norlander. The two have a long convo on that, then recap why the NCAA was ripe for criticism -- but some of it misguided from media members. They wrap by talking through how the NCAA managed to clear Marvin Bagley III so quickly for eligibility at Duke. Hey there, it's Gary Parish. It's Monday, September 11th. Welcome back to the out of college

0:19.9

basketball podcast. Got Mad Norlanda here with me. And if you're in the state of Florida,

0:25.0

we hope you hold up okay, scary weekend down there. Lots of our co-workers had to evacuate

0:30.7

their homes because if you didn't know, cbsports.com's offices are actually in Fort Lauderdale.

0:36.5

So we've been watching this, especially closely. I imagine most of you have as well. So again,

0:41.8

if if you're down there, here's hoping you're okay and that your things are okay and if

0:46.5

not, we hope the recovery is as swift as it could possibly be. Oddly, it's been a fairly

0:54.0

interesting week past week in college basketball with I think three things worth discussing on this

1:01.7

podcast. One, the transfer conversation that was sparked by a report last week. Two, the Houston

1:09.8

NCAA case that's rooted in Hurricane Harvey donations. And three, Marvin Bagley being certified

1:15.6

for freshman eligibility at Duke sooner than I think most people expected it to happen. So let's

1:30.9

had an article that he posted and published that stated that the NCAA could vote.

1:41.1

The implication, I believe, being pretty soon on a proposal that was picking up steam

1:47.9

that would allow a Division I basketball players, Division I football players, all Division I

1:54.2

players, the opportunity to transfer at least once without penalty to another Division I university.

2:02.5

He reported that there could be some an academic component tied to it that you might only be able

2:10.9

to transfer once freely the second time you would have to do the normal one-year sitout. But

2:18.9

the story certainly got a lot of attention within coaching circles. The NCAA pushed back on this

2:23.9

a little bit and said essentially, A, there is no vote like on the table. Like it's not something

2:32.7

that's going to happen later this year. Brett McMurray, our O'Powl reported that if this were to

2:39.5

actually become a thing, it wouldn't be for many, many years. I think you reported 2020-2021,
