| 0:00.0 | Hello and welcome to the Tuesday August 29th 2017 edition of Tesla Daily on |
| 0:11.7 | official Tesla Podcast. |
| 0:12.9 | My name is Rob Maower. |
| 0:13.8 | Today we are talking about my opinion. |
| 0:17.1 | As you may know, I am pre-recording this episode on Sunday. |
| 0:20.4 | Today's gonna be a little bit of a unique episode, |
| 0:21.9 | and I'm just gonna kind of talk about some of my thoughts on the model three and |
| 0:25.4 | Specifically the long-range version. I think that this is something that people realize but it hasn't really been discussed a lot |
| 0:31.1 | Which is really just the value that Tesla is able to provide in terms of range per |
| 0:36.6 | dollar with the Tesla Model 3 long-range addition. As a reminder the long-range |
| 0:41.4 | addition starts at $44,000 and has a range of 310 miles. |
| 0:46.0 | So taking 44,000 dividing by 310, that works out to a cost per mile of $142. The standard range version starts of course at $35,000 with a |
| 0:56.0 | 220 mile range and that's $159 per mile. This is actually right in line with the |
| 1:01.3 | Chevy Bolt which has 238 miles of range for a price of $37,500, |
| 1:07.8 | which works out to $157 per mile. |
| 1:10.5 | However, aside from the bolt, there's nothing really else in the same ballpark. |
| 1:14.0 | The Nissan Leaf would be the next closest, I think, at a base price of $30,000 for a 107-mile |
| 1:20.3 | EPA range. That works out to a dollar per mile cost of $280. The next gen leaf, and this is my |
| 1:29.1 | speculation, but I believe that the next gen leaf is supposed to start at $35,000 and is expected to have an EPA range of around 160 miles, which will work out to $2018 per mile. |
| 1:40.4 | So there's definitely a huge gap there between what the model three is offering and what the Nissan |
| 1:46.6 | Leaf is offering. The other important distinction as a reminder is I do not view the Chevy Bolt or the Nissan Leaf to be in the same class as a Tesla Model 3. |
| 1:57.7 | I don't think if they were, they would not be viewed as competitors at all if they didn't both have electric power trains. |
