Dear enthusiastic hey and mumble hello.

I think in hope I've spotted a logical fallacy in Simon's new excitable introduction to the podcast.

He justifies it by saying that in this multimedia world full of competing attractions,

you need to grab the listener from the get-go.

Surely anyone listening to the podcast has already made the conscious decision to download and listen.

There's no passing trade or preaching to the converted.

If Simon really must give us his vaudevillian stick, then it's better placed at the start of the actual radio show.

But that's rather like saying that you should only be nice to the customer until the point that they've made the purchase,

after which you can just treat them.

I mean I think what's nice about it is yes, you're right.

By the time they've already downloaded the podcast, they don't need any more.

They have to stay listening, do they?

No, they can always move on somewhere else.

But it's nice because it means that it sounds like at least you are still enthusiastic that they are here.

Yes.

And so I shall continue to, I shall continue with my vaudevillian stick.
