Canada Strikes Back with Tariffs on U.S. Energy and Agriculture – Starting Monday, Canada will impose a 25% export tax on electricity to New York, Michigan, and Minnesota, as well as a 10% tax on oil and fertilizer ingredients, potentially raising gas and food prices.

Federal Budget Showdown: Government Shutdown Looming? – House Republicans struggle to find $880 billion in spending cuts, with Medicaid and Medicare off-limits. A budget vote on Tuesday could determine if the government shuts down next Friday.

Mass CIA Firings: Is the Intel Community Being Gutted or Cleaned Up? – 80 officers have already been fired, with more expected. Critics warn of national security risks, while others say the agency is shedding political operatives and DEI hires.

Military’s New AI Weapon: CamoGPT vs. DEI – The U.S. Army is using artificial intelligence to erase Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies from training materials.

Middle East on Edge: U.S. and Israel Threaten Joint Military Strikes on Hamas – Trump’s envoy warns that if hostages aren’t released, “action will be taken.”

Houthis Rejoice Over U.S. Terrorist Designation – Yemen’s Iran-backed militia welcomes being listed as a terrorist group, reaffirming their motto: "Death to America."

Germany’s Debt-Driven Spending Plan Rattles Global Markets – A massive 500 billion Euro bond sale spikes interest rates, affecting mortgage costs worldwide.

Could NATO’s Article 5 Be Extended to Ukraine? – Italy’s prime minister suggests Ukraine should receive NATO-style security guarantees, raising the risk of U.S. troops on the ground and nuclear conflict with Russia.

A good day to you, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Wright Report, Your Daily News, podcast.

0:22.5

It's Friday's headline brief. Have you're on news, a little lighter on the analysis,

0:26.7

launching us into the weekend with events that, as ever, are shaping America and the world.

0:33.0

We begin with domestic news this morning, starting with a retreat on tariffs.

0:38.1

The Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine, and a whole bunch of others are reporting that President Trump

0:41.8

is backing off of his threat of 25% tariffs, at least for some Mexican and Canadian goods.

0:48.5

Those traded under the USMCA agreement, those will be exempt. That, by the way, makes up about 60% of our trade with each of

0:56.2

those nations, which of course leaves the remaining 40%. Those will get hit with the tariffs for

1:02.5

the next month. Well, in response to that, Canada is dropping a few of their tariffs, as one would

1:07.5

expect, but they are maintaining others with this next big one. A 25% export tax on electricity sold to New York, Michigan, and Minnesota.

1:16.6

That kicks in on Monday.

1:18.6

Canadians are also pursuing a 10% export tax on Canadian oil, of course, the vast majority of which goes to American refineries.

1:26.6

We've talked about that a lot over the past month or so.

1:29.5

So we could see a price bump at some Midwestern gas stations over the next number of days.

1:34.3

That could last for at least a month. Finally, we should know that America's farmers and ranchers might get squeezed.

1:40.9

And that is because Canada has something called potash. That is a vital component

1:44.4

of a lot of fertilizers. That is going to face an export tax as well of about 10%. That starts now

1:50.4

through early April. Regarding Mexico, Trump gave them a partial reprieve as well, although

1:56.2

reciprocally, I'm not quite sure what Mexico is going to do. I'll keep you posted on what

2:00.4

tariffs they

2:01.0

slap on our stuff. But perhaps most interestingly, President Trump said yesterday that he has a
