Money can't buy this. Money cannot buy the feeling of doing last man standing. Money cannot buy the feeling of running a 248 marathon in Buffalo.

Like, you know, the expression of rich man has a million problems, a sick man has one. So to not be like using this body and this disc life to like challenge yourself and experience these things, you're like leaving so much on the table.

But when that stuff's happening and you're in the fight, it's like, I'm alive. Like, I'm doing it. I'm like squeezing every ounce of juice out of this lemon that's life.

We have Ken right out back for other episode. What's going on, brother?

1:29.7

Oh, man. Thanks for having me. I'm honored, flattered, humbled to be here. I mentioned this to you before, but the first time we did the

the pod together. And I don't mean this offensively. I just wasn't familiar with the brand. I had known your name in passing. And we did the interview when that thing came out.

1:51.1

Your listener base is savage. The they showed out the love that they showed me and like the feedback I got on social media was mind blowing.

2:03.4

I mean, it was as big as anything I've ever done. And I've done some like decent media stuff. But so thank you for doing that. And thanks for having me back again. I'm incredibly honored to be here.

2:14.9

I think the message resonated with a lot of people. And you know, especially with your your background of addiction. And then, you know, the different jobs you've held an experience and then being a very talented runner.

2:33.6

At 52 years old, being a husband and a father. I mean, you just ran a sub 230 marathon at Chicago a few weeks ago. How that feel?

2:45.6

After that race. So that was the age group world championships. And after the race in the in the days prior when I got to Chicago, I don't think my wife realized it was the world championships and how significant it was to me.

2:57.6

Because the first time I ran it, I think I talked about this on the show, a guy beat me in London by less than a minute, but he started in in a different corral where he shouldn't have been. And it was like very underhanded like I know he did it on purpose. So I wouldn't essentially I wouldn't know he was in the race.

3:14.4

When the different corrals merged together around three miles similar to New York. There's so many people in London that all the different start areas merged together around three or four miles.

3:25.0

And all the age group athletes were meant to be together. So three miles in. I can't even see the people behind me. I'm leading the age group athlete. So I'm like, oh my God, I can just I'm going to dial in my effort and just try to get to the finish line and hold off everyone. I can see them come by because we all have numbers on our front and back to identify who's in the age group.

3:45.4

And no one passed me. And again, at the front of the race, when you run to 29, there's not a lot of people going by you. Like this, once you get established in the first couple miles, it's pretty steady, occasionally someone might go by and you might pass someone else.

3:58.7

So he didn't pass me and when I finished the race, I was like, oh, shit, I think I did it. I think I'm the world champion. This is in 2021. I looked at the results, saw that I didn't win, went on to Strava like forensic detective and tried to figure out when did this guy pass me and when I looked at the map.

4:14.9

I could tell he started somewhere else. I was so upset because it's just it was underhanded. And then he ran the first three miles, all three miles in like 15 flat. So it was one of five minute miles, someone who can and we average 540, someone who can run a 540 mile for a marathon, isn't running the first three miles in five flat. It's just insane.

4:36.3

Unless, of course, you want to get off the front, you know, the expression and running out of sight out of mind. And you don't want me to know you're up the road, which is exactly what he did anyway, I didn't move.
