And any time that I have felt really lost in my work life, and it's happened a lot,

I've noticed that I just didn't have direction in my personal life as well.

They feed each other, or they should, right?

They should, they should kind of be in alignment with each other. You don't have to be doing the same thing in both your work life and your personal life.

But when I create too big of a wall between my personal life and my work life, I tend to lose direction in both.

It's my belief that we have seven opportunities to make it big.

Really big, like a quantum leap forward in your career

and you're given only so many cards to play in life.

Now for us, one of those seven opportunities came in the form of a music video.

In 2006, Robert House came to us with this amazing treatment about doing an animated Rorschach test for this new band called Narls Barclay.

The song was called Crazy and was for their debut album St. Elsewhere. It was an opportunity too good for us to pass on.

The work itself wound up winning an MTV music video award for best direction and Best Editing. And so of course all this attention

came to us and we got a ton of inquiries for new business, from clients from ad agencies.

We got a lot of press attention and it felt great. But back then

we weren't as sophisticated in terms of how to maximize on the attention that we

were getting. So I believe as nice as it was to win those awards and get the

attention in some of the work that came after, we did not fully capitalize on that

moment. My next guest has had that giant moment. You decide if he's made the most of that opportunity or not.

the motionographer it's a blog basically that tries to cover motion graphics, animation, and some kind of emerging storytelling
