Summary

There are those books that we’ve all heard of and read. Books like Twilight, Harry Potter and Fifty Shades of Grey (we know… so scandals!). However, the book that we want to share and discuss today is not as controversial as Mr. Grey, but it’s one that is very common in the category of self-discovery.    To give a short summary, Stephen Covey is the author of the high acclaimed 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This book outlines 7 habits that Covey believes are necessary to become an effective person. Keep in mind that this book, while it helps you with being productive, this book is so much more than this. In fact, this book helps you in all areas of life; think of this book as a way to help you become well-rounded. The book is broken into private victories (habits 1-3) and public victories (habits 4-6).   7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE   Habit definition: A habit is the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire. Knowledge is the theoretical paradigm (the what to do and the why). Skill is how you do it, and desire is the motivation (the want to do).   Habit 1: Be Proactive   Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind   Habit 3: Put First Things First   Habit 4: Think Win-Win   Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood   Habit 6: Synergize   Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw   CONCLUSION   We loved this book and highly recommend it as a read. If you feel as though you need a little push in order to become more productive but to also to develop a well-rounded lifestyle, this is a must read! Well, hello there, top teachers. We are your host, Bridget Spackman and Michelle Farray, and we are here to make

0:06.6

your life easier by helping you master your time, organization, and productivity as a teacher.

Today, we are going to share a book review of the seven habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey

0:20.0

and give you some very practical tips for being

0:23.6

able to apply his theory into teaching. But before we jump into that, as excited as we are,

0:30.3

you know we have to share a TSAH or a time-sucking hurdle. Today's time-sucking hurdle comes from

0:36.4

Kelly. And I specifically pick this one out because

0:39.0

I can relate to it. Kelly said, I've been re-watching Hamilton over and over ever since it came out on

0:46.6

Disney Plus. And even now that I've watched it five times, I still can't look away or do other

0:52.7

things while it's on. But it's so good, so I'm kind of

0:56.5

okay with that. Now, Bridget has not seen Hamilton. I was about to say I haven't seen it yet.

1:02.3

Which blows my mind. Now, I had not seen it until it came out on Disney Plus, full disclosure. I

1:07.3

wish I could have seen it live, but it's very expensive. So that was not an option for me.

1:12.2

But I will say once I sold on Disney Plus, I became obsessed. I will say one thing that has helped me

1:18.8

kind of maintain my productivity is I will listen to just the soundtrack. So I'll have it playing

1:24.6

through my Alexa or through my phone. And that way I can do other things

1:28.6

while still listening and enjoying it. No, that's a really good tip. I love it. So I feel like we

1:35.6

decided to do this podcast because Michelle and I realized that we had something in common. Well, yes,

1:40.9

I know we have a lot of things in common, but I felt like we realized that we had

1:45.0

both read the seven habits of highly effective teens when we were kids. Now, the difference is

1:51.9

Bridget doesn't remember, like, how she got the book or why she got the book. No idea. I, on the other

1:57.1

hand, was forced to read the book by my mother. She, for whatever reason, thought I really
