It's Friday's headline brief, heavy on news, light on analysis, launching us into the weekend with events that, as ever, are shaping America and the world.

We begin with domestic news this morning, starting with the attacks in New Orleans and in Las Vegas, focusing first on an update out of Louisiana.

The FBI there is now claiming that the Islamic terrorist, Mr. Shamsuddin Jabbar, acted alone.

This comes a day after they said no. In fact, he was working with at least four other people.

The FBI is now clarifying that those that they thought were working with him were actually just curious bystanders.

They were caught on video at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Instead, it was Mr. Jabbar and he alone that planted those bombs in the French Quarter of New Orleans that were later neutralized.

Also, the Bureau is saying that they discovered social media posts of Mr. Jabbar swearing an allegiance to ISIS,

although they say he had absolutely no foreign contacts.

However, and curiously, you should know this.

The FBI also said yesterday that they are still going through two laptops that they found

at a rental house that Mr. Jabar stayed at while in Louisiana.

They also found three cell phones that he left behind.

Those also need to be evaluated and triaged as well.

So pivoting now to analysis and opinion, this is odd.

The FBI has five electronic devices that they have not

fully triaged or explored, but they're claiming that Mr. Jabar has absolutely no foreign ties

and that for sure he acted alone. Okay, well, based on my experience, that is not how this

normally works. It is very unusual to declare with such confidence and so quickly that there are no foreign ties.

And he had no outside help when you clearly got raid material to still triage.
