My name is Rob Maower and today we are talking about Tesla beginning to install solar panels

on Gigafactory 1, Hong Kong announcing a new EV incentive, and Hyundai unveiling a new electric vehicle to launch in late 2018.

Tesla stock on Tuesday closed down 1.79% to $350.99,

this compared to the NasdDAQ down 1.23%.

Supercharger network update, we are still at 1,170 supercharging locations.

First up today, Tesla has started to install solar panels on the roof of Gigafactory 1. This is apparent when looking at

the satellite imagery of the Gigafactory and this was pointed out by building Tesla.com. As we know,

end state for the Gigafactory is to be 100% sustainable,

with most of the energy being produced by solar,

as well as some power contribution from wind,

and I believe geothermal as well, all stored in Tesla's batteries.

So the timeline for that being accomplished is not clear.

I would expect it to still be at least a year or two

before that is up, but Tesla has plans to install a 70 megawatt solar system on the roof, which would be the largest

rooftop solar system by 7X. Personally, I am actually a little bit surprised that they have already

started to install solar on the roof at the gigafactory.

As we know with solar, it's a heavy upfront capital cost, but then over time provides a good return.

Tesla being relatively capital constrained right now still has other outlets that can provide a better return on their capital than investing in solar projects.

So it is kind of interesting to see them use capital in this way at this point in time.
