Michigan actually got a commitment yesterday.

It was a specialist.

And it got me thinking about a conversation I had a bunch of years ago with Jim Harbaugh

when I was hosting a tack each day.

The Harbaugh's podcast with Jim and his dad, Jack.

And one of the things we talked about, it was kind of the evolution of recruiting specialists.

Because if you think about going back to the 70s, Michigan didn't have scholarship kickers.

A lot of times it was a kicker that was a – prior to that, it was a kicker.

There was someone who was on the roster that could also kick.

And then they started recruiting kickers, but they weren't necessarily scholarship guys,

but they were recruiting kickers, but they weren't necessarily scholarship guys, but they were recruiting kickers. And you started bringing guys that were kickers in the 70s and the 80s.

And you would have these guys that were specialists.

But again, they weren't necessarily scholarship guys, but you were bringing in kickers to be on

your squad.

But you got to a point in the process where coaches realized how important all three parts

of the process of a kick are. And it's two parts in the punt, three parts and the kick.

So the long snapper, who obviously is snapping for field goals, extra points and punts.

The holder, who is your holder for the kicks.

And most of the time is your punter, but can be a backup quarterback, but generally is your punter.

And so you're a holder. And then your punter, and so your holder.

And then your kicker, of course.
